$kinnypurp - Emotionvl

Rockford, Illinois artist $kinnypurp released his second solo project in October 2022 called Emotionvl. He attempts to take listeners through a bevy of emotions as they listen to this nine song tape. The prevelance of drugs and also the rock aesthetics he gives off will remind you of artist like Lil Uzi Vert, Juice Wrld, and Playboi Carti.

$kinnypurp shows flashes of creativity throughout the album but ultimately fall shorts to win over the good graces of the listener on most songs. With only one feature on the entire album $kinny provides many different sounds by himself throughout the tape and at some points completely changing his cadence and flow.

The album itself runs for 30 minutes at only 9 songs gives each track a average of 3.2 minutes which is way too long for an artist at this point of their career. The long run time of the songs often leads to Purp repeating himself and makes many of the song's unlistenable after the 2 minute mark. A few songs on the tape definitely give the vibe

The beat selection is probably the best aspect of the entire project with many head bobbing and trance inducing sounds. The sounds ultimately won't get the appreciation it deserves because of the lyrics. Many songs sound like they were freestyles and recorded all in one take, which is probably why many of the verses are repetitive and simple.

Emotionvl seems like a rushed out project from an artist who hadn't dropped in two years just wanted to release something. Definitely not $kinnypurps best work but there are small bright spots that I expect him to expand upon on his next releases.
